Lisa Vrvilo Honored as Alaska’s 2017 National Distinguished Principal

Last June, the Alaska Association of Elementary School Principals (AAESP) named Lisa Vrvilo, Principal at Cottonwood Elementary in Wasilla, Alaska’s 2017 National Distinguished Principal. Vrvilo traveled to Washington D.C. in October for two days of activities to honor and bring well-deserved recognition to the elementary educators selected by their respective states.

“The experience NAESP provided for this award recognition was absolutely above and beyond anything I expected. It was a very classy event that made every recipient feel special for the work we  do every day. Educators don’t get many opportunities to be recognized like this, and it is certainly not the reason we go into education. To be recognized for the passion we have to influence and inspire, through hard work and the relationships we build with our school community, is an incredible feeling, and I am very grateful. We have so many hard-working teachers and staff who give their hearts to their students every day and deserve equal recognition. It takes all of our team to help our students succeed. I wish everyone I work with at Cottonwood Elementary could have been with me to enjoy this recognition. It was truly a once‑in‑a‑lifetime opportunity.” – Lisa Vrvilo
